NewJeans & The Powerpuff Girls

l  NewJeans is a Korean female music group launched by ADOR (a subsidiary of HYBE) in 2022. It consists of five members and has attracted attention for its diverse and retro Y2K style and refreshing music.

l  The Powerpuff Girls is an American superhero animated television series, and is deeply loved by the audience for its unique artistic style, humorous plot and strong female heroism.

l  Co-branding: NewJeans has collaborated with Warner Bros for their 25th anniversary and will be releasing an album in collaboration with the 90s iconic cartoons, THE POWERPUFF GIRLS. This cooperation combines the classic image of The Powerpuff Girls to create a new image symbol for the group. In addition, NewJeans also cooperated with LINE FRIENDS to launch a series of peripheral products with the theme of Flying Policewoman, including doll pendants and costumes, and held a theme flash event in LINE FRIENDS stores in Asia.

l  Such cooperation can be regarded as success. It has become a new cultural consumer product, including multiple experiences of music and vision. This has enhanced the global influence of both sides. On the one hand, as a retro nostalgic cartoon, The Powerpuff Girls fits the group's Y2K positioning, and through the cooperation it has entered the new era's vision and increased its popularity. On the other hand, the group has attracted a new audience with the help of nostalgic animation, and at the same time has built itself into a cultural IP, which has surpassed the meaning of a traditional idol group and become a cultural symbol.

l  However, there are also some limitations. For example, the product is only sold in some areas., and the geographical coverage and influence of cooperation still have space for improvement.

It’s a win for both brands: Powerpuff Girls gets a new life with the next generation, while NewJeans taps into a wider, nostalgic audience.
    The partnership with LINE FRIENDS is another great move. Limited-edition products and flash events create buzz and make fans feel like part of something exclusive. That said, the regional limitations on the product availability are a bit of a letdown, but it’s understandable for a brand still expanding globally.
    All in all, this collaboration is a shining example of how pop culture can be a dynamic, multifaceted experience. It’s not just about music or animation anymore—it's about creating an entire ecosystem where music, visuals, and products live and breathe together.
